When do you first become interested in Food Science?
I got interested in food science after I completed my bachelors in bioscience.

Did you choose specific A Levels because of your interest?
I did biology and chemistry in A/Levels which contributes a lot in food science

Did you have a career goal in mind when you applied for University?
Yes I wanted to be a technical manager in the food industry and start my own business in the later future.

What made you choose Nottingham University?
The University of Nottingham was ranged on the top ten for food science and Nottingham life attracted me.

How did you find the degree course, was it what you expected, was it hard, what was most interesting?
I enjoyed my course for the fullest, mainly because it was a combination of business and food science. The course was more practical oriented which involved laboratory work and group projects.

What is it like being a student at Nottingham University?
It is amazing being a student at Nottingham. The campus has its natural beauty and world class facilities for both academic and leisure.

What work placements did you go on? What were they like, what did you do?
I did my work placement for a brewery in Nottingham called Castle Rock. It was a small business with craftsmanship. Since it was small it gave me the right opportunity to learn the business in and out. I worked in yeast culture analysis and quality management.

How have you found job hunting in the Food Sector?
Job hunting can be hard for some due to the current economic condition. But I would say that the food industry is stable than others because people need food all the time.

What does your job involve? Is it fun, interesting?
My job involves making sure that the products we make are safe, quality and legitimate. It is interesting because each day is a new day; I get new issues to face every day. I am proud of what I am doing because I feel I am responsible of making safe food for thousands of people each day.

What are your long term career plans?
Get work experience in the industry and move on from there.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about Food Science as a career?
Food science is a vast field. It is innovative and has potential growth in the future. Whether you are a person with scientific skills or enjoy cooking there is a branch in food science to utilise your interests.
